FLIGHT 1

2005 Huët Vouvray Cuvée Constance – France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray Cream and lychee on the nose, with caramelized ginger, green tea, and a nice mineral backbone. The palate had a very candied aspect – mainly melon and citrus, with more ginger and cream, and a good stony finish. (98 Points)

2005 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Beerenauslese * – Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer A good mix of peach, stone and citrus on the nose. The palate had the same flavors, but much more concentrated. (97 Points)

2005 Didier Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé Pur Sang – France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé My WOTN. Stone and herb on the nose, with a nice citrus and floral backbone. A little more fruit on the palate – mainly grapefruit and lemon, but it still had the herb and mineral core. (95 Points)

2003 Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Boisrenard – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape A nice core of black fruit and bittersweet chocolate on the nose, with a good tar and earth background. The bittersweet chocolate was upfront on the palate, supported by black fruit, earth, smoke, and tar. (94 Points)

2004 Brancaia Il Blu Toscana IGT – Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT Floral and stony on the nose, with blackberry and cherry underneath. A nice mix of minerals and black fruit on the palate, with nice cherry and floral finish. (94 Points)

1999 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut Rosé – France, Champagne Strawberry and raspberry on the nose, plus a good toast finish. The palate was much like the nose, with the addition of a citrus and bread flavor. (93 Points)

2002 Louis Barthélémy Champagne Brut Saphir – France, Champagne Apricot and peach on the nose with a wonderful yeasty underneath. The palate was very different and much more interesting. Creamy with coffee notes, and a nice butterscotch finish. (93 Points)

2008 Vogelzang Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Happy Canyon Vogelzang Vineyard – USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley Very fruit forward, with orange, citrus, honey, apple on the nose. The palate was much the same. (92 Points)

2007 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection – USA, California, Napa Valley A little too oak for my taste, but it’s hard to argue with the delicious factor of this wine. It’s all dark black fruit and creamy oak. The palate was the same. (90 Points)

2008 Saxum Heart Stone Vineyard – USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles It’s hard not to like this, but it really was one dimensional. Blueberry, raspberry, plum, and a little tar. The palate was exactly the same. (90 Points)

FLIGHT 1

2007 Rivetto Barbaresco Ce Vanin – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco Sour cherry on the nose, plus cedar and spice underneath, and a hint of perfume and rose petals at the end. Very fruit on the palate, but with a nice earth backbone. The finish was all flowers and perfume. (90 Points)

2007 Selby Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County – USA, California, Sonoma County Tobacco and cherry on the nose, with all spice and cinnamon in the middle, and some black raspberry at the end. The palate is rich with dark fruit. The earth flavors come on in the middle and it finishes with lots of spice. (90 Points)

2007 Provenance Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford – USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford Rich dark fruit on the nose, with spice and earth flavors behind. Dark and creamy on the palate, this wine is very big. Dark fruit, lots of oak, and some spice. (89 Points)

2007 Kathryn Kennedy Cabernet Sauvignon Small Lot – USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains Rich and creamy on the nose, with lots of dark fruit, a little spice. Much the same on the palate. It’s tasty, but one dimensional. (88 Points)

2009 Tres Sabores Sauvignon Blanc Farina Vineyard – USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain Floral and spicy on the nose, with nice hints of citrus and tropical fruit. Rich and creamy on the palate, the spicy and floral tones are surrounded by nice citrus fruit. (87 Points)

FLIGHT 2

2007 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas – France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas The nose has loads of mushroom and mint, mixed with espresso and olives. There’s a bit of dark fruit at the end, but the nose is all earth flavors. The palate is much like the nose. All earth flavors with just a touch of fruit. I like it. (93 Points)

2007 Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley – USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley Minerals and dark fruit on the nose, with forest floor and cinnamon in the middle, and some sour cherry at the end. Tart cherry on the palate, with earthy and spice behind, and a pleasant dark fruit finish. (90 Points)

FLIGHT 1

2008 Argyle Pinot Noir Nuthouse Reserve Series – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley Smoky and spicy on the nose, with dark black fruit, and roasted herbs. Huge and rich on the palate, the fruit really shines here. The herbs and smoke that are so strong on the nose, are very subtle on the palate. (91 Points)

2008 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py – France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon Cherry and stone on the nose, with some game and barnyard aromas. It’s slightly floral in the middle, and has some raspberry at the end. Rich and meaty on the palate, with loads of cherry and raspberry. It has some floral notes on the mid-palate, and some stone on the finish. (91 Points)

2008 Amity Vineyards Pinot Noir Sunnyside – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley Dark and spicy on the nose, it has black cherry and raspberry, with hints os of coriander and nutmeg. The fruit is much more subtle on the palate, and the spice is more pronounced. (91 Points)

2009 Sanglier Cellars Rosé du Tusque – USA, California, Sonoma County Lots of red fruit on the nose – mainly strawberry and cherry, plus some stone and floral notes. Great acidity on the palate, with bright cherry, strawberry and plum flavors. The finish was quite a bit of rock. (89 Points)

2010 Maîtres Vignerons de la Presqu’ile de Saint-Tropez Côtes de Provence – France, Provence, Côtes de Provence Strawberry and floral on the nose, with hints of crushed rock and citrus. The palate had great acidity, with a flavor profile much the same as the nose., except here the minerals were more dominate. (88 Points)

FLIGHT 1

2005 Travaglini Gattinara – Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara Dried flowers and crushed rock on the nose, framed by roasted herbs and tobacco. The fruit comes on towards the end with some nice sour cherry notes. Much the same flavors on the palate as are on the nose. The main difference being that the transition between flavors is not as sharp as it is on the nose. (90 Points)

2005 Falesco Marciliano Umbria IGT – Italy, Umbria, Umbria IGT Sweet dark fruit and toasted oak on the nose, with hints of black licorice and spice. Big, rich and juicy on the palate. It has just a little too much oak for my taste, but the dark fruit and licorice flavors save it. (90 Points)

2007 Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Tradizionale – Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico Cherry and raspberry on the nose, with background notes of cigar leaf and pepper. This transitions to some floral notes. The tannins are extremely firm on the palate, which hides some of the flavors. There is some berry and raspberry fruit, a little spice, and some tobacco and flowers on the finish. (87 Points)

2003 Casanuova delle Cerbaie Brunello di Montalcino – Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino Cedar and smoke on the nose, with some cherry and leather. Lots of oak and more earthy than fruity. The palate is fat with oak, which overpowers the fruit and earth flavors. (86 Points)

2001 Castello delle Regine Princeps Umbria IGT – Italy, Umbria, Umbria IGT Dark fruit on the nose, plus hints of leather and spice. The oak really shows here, hiding almost anything else. The palate is all oak and tannins. A little dark fruit, and a little spice, but not much else. (85 Points)

FLIGHT 2

2007 Luce Luce della Vite Toscana IGT – Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT Cherry and raspberry on the nose, plus pepper and some floral notes. Soft on the palate, with ripe tannins and sweet red fruit. The mid-palate adds some floral notes and it has a spicy finish. (92 Points)

2006 Andrea Oberto Barolo – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo A pleasant mix of cherry, spice, and cedar on the nose. Round and fleshy on the palate, with cherry and spice, and a nice cedar finish. (91 Points)

FLIGHT 1

2006 Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley – USA, California, Napa Valley Blackberry and licorice on the nose, with background notes of bittersweet chocolate, black olives, and toasted oak. Minty on the palate, with dark rich fruit and chocolate underneath. The mid-palate adds in some licorice, and it finishes with some mineral drenched olives. (90 Points)

2007 Forchini Zinfandel Proprietor’s Reserve – USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley Bramble and berry on the nose, with sweet spice underneath. There’s a nice deliciousness to this wine. It’s not big or over-the-top, but it still has all the flavors you associate with Zin. (89 Points)

2006 Chateau Montelena Zinfandel Estate – USA, California, Napa Valley Blueberries and cherry on the nose, with hints of chocolate and licorice behind. Rich on the palate, with dark chocolate and licorice, violets and cherry, and a nice blueberry finish. (88 Points)

2006 Swanson Merlot – USA, California, Napa Valley Ripe fruit on the nose, especially black currant and raspberry, along with a little pepper and mocha. Quite tannic on the palate, and pretty oaky. The fruit and spice flavors are there, but in the background. It may need more time. (86 Points)

2006 Blue Rock Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley A fairly tight nose, but it had lots of fruit – blackberry and cherry, and some floral notes. The palate is the same as the nose. Very uninspiring. (83 Points)

FLIGHT 2

2007 Realm Cellars The Tempest – USA, California, Napa Valley Coffee and chocolate on the nose, with hints of cherry and smoke. Soft and juicy on the palate, it has smoke and coffee, with cherry undertones. It finishes with espresso and spice. (90 Points)

2008 DuMOL Chardonnay Chloe – USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley Lychee and orange peel on the nose, plus pear and minerals. Much more buttery on the palate than the nose, but the flavors are the same as the nose, but much more subdued. (87 Points)
